Psalm 42:11 "Why are you down in the dumps, dear soul? Why are you crying the blues? Fix my eyes on God - soon I'll be praising again. He puts a smile on my face. He's my God."
We've all had one of those days where we just feel out of it and want to be left alone. One of those days when all the worries in your world just come like a flash storm. I'm sitting in my office today at work and with in seconds the rain from Tropical Storm Debbie came and met South Florida, but only for a few minutes. It was raining so hard you couldn't see out the window! But it only lasted for about 10 minutes or maybe even less.
That's exactly how worries in life can come. Everything can be going fine and all of a sudden a Tropical Storm of worries will come rushing into your mind and you find yourself not seeing clearly and feeling in the dumps.
This morning I had to go to court for some traffic violation I got last month, no not speeding, and the end result was having to pay over $200. Walking out of that court my tropical storm could had came in and threw me in the dumps. All the thoughts of overdue bills, insurance, car payment, rent just rushing through my head. Crying the blues, questioning why more payments are being added onto my already over flowing plate. Naturally I would have been justified to have allowed myself to worry and to start thinking about all the ways I'm going to harbor my money to make ends meet.
But that's not what happened.
I did not allow myself "naturally" to fixate on my current situation. What value would have come from me worrying? Nothing! As I was walking out of the court house there was a beggar asking for donations and instantly I knew that I couldn't walk past him fixated on my court costs and act like he was not there. I pulled out my wallet and gave him a donation trying to find a church flyer to give him as well, to let him know we will be having a Breakfast on Sunday just for him.
We live in a world where we were created from the dust, from the dirt. It's a dirty world and as long as we are here things are going to get dirty. The days of Tropical Storm Worries will come and we can't allow ourselves to fixate on the current circumstances even when the storm passes and it will faster than you expected. Will you allow yourself to have a bad day just because it rained earlier? No! The psalmist tells us to "Fix my eyes on God - soon I'll be praising again."
Your praises will begin when you learn to stop focusing on your worries and fix your eyes on God. He'll put a smile on your face and when he does it will be like the sun that shines through the rain. A smile is contagious and somebody is in a Tropical Storm of Worry waiting for that Sunshine Smile to come in and brighten up their day!
Don't allow worry to become your obsession ... ask yourself today where is your Fixation?
FIXATION
