Listen Up

Hebrews 2:1 NLT "So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it."

Isn't it frustrating when you're talking, instructing, or asking somebody to do something and they are standing right in front of you, but no reaction is given? What is usually their response? "I heard you" and then we reply "ok then what did I say?"

Sure you heard me. You heard a noise. You heard sounds around you. But were you listening?

So many people hear God, hear the Word of God, but simply don't choose to 'listen' to him.

As a result of not listening, we find ourselves in terrible situations, questioning God as to what happened? "But I'm a Christian, this shouldn't be happening to me!" Gods word is very clear in Hebrews we MUST LISTEN very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it. If all we are doing is hearing the message, but not listening then we when get out of the House of God we start making choices that are not in line with his word and we get further and further away from where He wants us to be.

We make the choice to drift away from God simply by not listening to him.

As a Pastor, I've counseled many people who sometimes grew up in church or been in church for a few years. I give biblical advice straight from the bible and they're shocked at the new insight they just received. Many times the church will be in a sermon series or just got out of one and guess what the issue is that we are talking about in my office? The exact same thing we just got done or were currently covering as a church. The problem is we're not listening. None of the counsel I gave was new insight or told differently, its just the fact of are you in your word? And yes you may be 'reading' your bible but are you just hearing the word or are you 'listening'?

Gods word is living and has the answer to meet our every need. The fact that you are drifting away from the things of God isn't a result of a spirit of sin (or whatever you are dealing with), but rather a lack of self discipline and self control.
The truth is you can handle the problem you are going through.  Jesus has given us so many truths of being blessed in hard situations, but you don't want to listen to him. You want to live your life the way you want to live it, that way when things do go right you praise yourself over the decision you made, but when it goes wrong you blame God for not loving you.

The Lord loves you so much and he absolutely loves talking to you. He's right in front of you speaking life into you. But there's no reaction.  Sure you hear him, but you're simply not listening.

Quit drifting away. Come back and  ...

LISTEN UP!
