Open the Gates!

2 Samuel 20:21 "'That's not my purpose. All I want is a man named Sheba son of Bicri from the hill country of Ephraim, who has revolted against King David. If you hand over this one man to me, I will leave the town in peace.' 'All right,' the woman replied, 'we will throw his head over the wall to you.'"

God isn't looking to destroy faithful people or towns.  His purpose is not to see his people suffer.  However, revolting against the King of kings must be dealt with.

Christians are always looking for revival. Praying, fasting, and pleading for the Lord to bring growth and send another wave of revival that will start in our churches.  We want growth and maturity.  We want to see the gifts of the Spirit fully functioning. Miracles, signs, and wonders are still evident today and we want more of them so we are pressing in to the throne room of God.

Why isn't revival coming? What's happening that we feel like we are trapped in our city and that there is no way out or no new people coming in?

Can it be that the army of the Lord is encamped outside the perimeter trying to break in, but we have closed the gates because we are harboring a fugitive to the Lord?  Because there is somebody amongst us who is revolting against the king and we want to protect them.  Sometimes as believers our good intentions can be the wrong approach, thus hindering God from allowing the city to prosper.

Nobody was coming in and nobody was going out because this city chose to hide Sheba amongst them. But somebody rose up! A wise lady came to her senses and realized that revival was not happening and that God's army was actually fighting against them instead of for them.  "But we are a city of the Lords", yes, but there is a revolter amongst you and they are causing the city to fall.

If we want to experience revival and reopen the gates to see more people come then we need to hand over those that are trying to revolt against the Lord back to him.  We can't make excuses for peoples sins and stubbornness, but rather get rid of it. Our good intentions of trying to harbor, love, accept, and care for those that are revolting against the Lord is only causing our gates for growth to be closed and the army of the Lord to attack against us.

Let us continue to be the city that God called us to be.  A wise city with answers that people can come to.  And as wise people of the Lord let us realize what is stopping revival in our towns and decapitate the sin! God's army has a purpose and that is to get rid of the revolting sin.

Hand over the one man so the town will have peace!

Open the Gates!
