Where are the True Levites?

1 Chronicles 23:32 "And so, under the supervision of the priests, the Levites watched over the Tabernacle and the Temple and faithfully carried out their duties of service at the house of the LORD."

Fancy that!

Lesson learned from the Levites! Volunteers that were not only under supervision but faithfully carried out their duties.

Many people want to be volunteers, or have good intentions to, but struggle with the submission of supervision.  Hahaha I like that word "supervision", the whole reason why you have a supervisor is because they have the SUPER-VISION, and they want to make sure you help meet it! Submission means that you are the Substitute for fulfilling the Mission at hand and so many fail to fulfill the mission, fail to submit!

The Levites kept an eye out on the House of God and all in it but not only that they still faithfully did their duties.  Sometimes as volunteers we can get so caught up in doing our own task we're not keeping an eye out to make sure everything is flowing.  Or sometimes we're too busy looking that we aren't faithfully doing our duties. There needs to be a balance.

One of my rules of leadership that I teach my leaders since I was a Youth Pastor was don't ask what can I do, just do something. If you're a volunteer in whatever position think about what that certain position requires and faithfully fulfill your duties. If you're on a worship team then watch over the area where worship is ministered make sure its clean organized and not being hassled with by kids running a muck. If you're a children's worker then make sure you have everything covered from start to finish and there is no room for "I don't know what to do time", make the area better before and after the classes than anybody else, make sure you know each kids name and if they are missing. If Security, Guest Service, Greeter, or Usher/Usherettes you're the eyes and the hands of the church. If something is out of line clean it or fix it, help people experience a joyful-clean-worried free-service at your church. Make sure you tried to come in contact with as many people as you can especially if they are visiting.

Levites were the tribe chosen by God to tend to his place of worship. They represent those called out from among the many.  Volunteers are the very same.  They are the ones who respond to the call to serve but struggle in doing so.

Lets do everything with all our heart especially if it's for the Lord or his house.  We work as unto the Lord not as unto man (Colossians 3:23). Yet, many volunteers will hit and miss without even a courtesy call but when it comes to a paid job they're there in sickness or in health with accountability beyond expectations.

Remember if you are a volunteer, first of all thank you, you are the backbone, the heart beat of our churches. But also remember you made the choice by saying "Yes" you want to serve, then serve! Be watchful and faithfully fulfill all your duties.
