Do Your Thang!

2 Chronicles 5:14  "The priests could not continue their service because of the cloud, for the glorious presence of the LORD filled the Temple of God."

As a pastor, leader, volunteer, or ministry worker it is so easy to get caught up in service.

Some people grow connections to their services and to a point that's good because they may have found their purpose. However, at the same time they can kind of slip into the "this is my thang" service mindset. They can flow in their service, knows everybody's names and stories, and really have it down on how to 'run' that service; they can practically do it with their eyes closed. But is that the goal? To know how to 'run' our services? To master the art of positions? I would like to believe not.

Serving isn't just about the service we do.  It's about the people, God's people, and what he wants best for them. Sure there are many people that are out there that are qualified for positions.  Many musicians, managers, organizers, teachers, and the like but do they have the heart for the people as well as the initial purpose or are they just all about the service? It seems kind of like a college student trying to pick their major, so indecisive because they don't know what they want to do with their life, so they just pick what seems easiest to complete ... what they know they can do in order to get a quick job. This is "my thang"

When we take a "this is my thang" mentality we give the Spirit very little room to come in and fill the Temple with his glorious presence.  We can get caught up thinking that we are doing a work of God because we have everything tightly organized and do it to perfection. But, the goal is not to master the service rather serve the Master! Study, yes. Plan, yes. Strategize, yes.  But don't allow yourself to be chained to the ground of structure.

Can God come into your life with his cloud of glory? If your ministry got interrupted because God had a different plan how would you react? Don't get so caught up in your service that his cloud of glory can't settle.  Allow yourself and service to be Spirit-led.

Transform your attitude and response in service and tell God "Do Your Thang!"
