Romans 8:2 "And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death."
September of 2011 my phone plan was up and I was contemplating changing carriers because I wanted to upgrade to an iPhone. I was really getting frustrated with the hourglass on my then current Blackberry. With the new iPhone4S being launched very soon I waited in expectation to see what the options were. To my surprise my carrier was going to start providing the iPhone! Finally towards the end of October I was able to get my iPhone at a great deal due to the expiration of my plan. One of the key features on this new phone was Siri.
Siri is like a friend, no more like a secretary, in my phone. You can ask Siri questions and get a response, many of my teenagers at church love having conversations with it. You can tell Siri to remind you of stuff and it's entered into your Calendar or Reminders. It's great!
However, even though I have Siri I still find myself often telling people "remind me"; my wife more than others, and my wife is so good at responding "tell Siri to, that's what you got her for". I can easily forget to do things simply because I didn't remind myself of it. It's not because these things aren't important to me, because they usually are, instead its because I'm probably caught up in the moment of what I'm doing in my everyday task that I don't stop to really recall what I had to remember.
That's exactly what can happen to us in our Christian walk. We forget that we belong to Jesus Christ (Christ-Like) and therefore we start finding ourselves caught up in the power of sin. Our thoughts, attitudes, relationships are all being pulled by this power! But thank God for Romans 8:2 that serves as our reminder of who we are! Yes, it reminds us that WE ARE FREED from the power of sin because we have the power of the LIFE-GIVING SPIRIT! When we find ourselves focusing on this reminder in Romans 8 then we can experience life but when we allow ourselves to just keep on doing what we're doing and being caught up in the moment we can easily lose track that we do belong to Him. And the result of getting caught up in the moment can be deadly.
Allow the Word of God to be your Siri today to remind you that you belong to Him!
