Isaiah 1:18 ""Come now, let us settle the matter," says the Lord. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;"
Is a snowman a symbol of Christmas simply because Christmas is in the winter, the season of snow? Possibly. Or is there more?
If you're looking for theological truths then stop reading now this blog is not for you. However, if you want to embrace Christmas with a new perspective then enjoy these upcoming blogs. Jesus used parables to explain the mysteries of Heaven and I believe that we too need to look for Christ in all things and explain these parables to the next generation.
As a father, I want my children to enjoy and embrace the wholeness of the Christmas season. But I want them, in the purity of their adolescents, to see that Christmas is all about Jesus. Therefore, I teach them, through parables, the meanings of different Christmas symbols that you will be reading about the next 12 days.
So why do we put up a Snowman for Christmas?
We already know that Christmas is Jesus birthday, but the snowman is a reminder of why He was born.
The Snowman represents humanity. Its a reminder that, just like a snowman is only here for a season, our lives are also here for a season. But during this season of life, if we recognize Jesus and why He came, then He can take our lives and make them white as snow.
Psalm 51:7 says "Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow."
You can't build a Snowman in any other season because there is no snow, all you would have is a Sandman or a Dirt-man, not very clean, not very pure. However, when you come to Jesus in due season, He will wash you and make you white as snow!
When snow is in an appropriate temperature it makes it easier to mold and shape into a good looking snowman. Jesus came to mold and shape us, as well as to bring joy to those around us. Just like Frosty the Snowman, was "a jolly happy soul", so we too need to be when we have Jesus in our lives.
But a time will come when this life will melt away, but if we live a life with Jesus then its worth it everyday.
I hope next time you see a Snowman during Christmas you'll see yourself and all that Jesus has done for you!
Allow Jesus to fulfill the purpose of why He was born in your life.
Allow Him to forgive you of your sins, to mold you, and shape you, and make you a great SNOWMAN!
