Why are LIGHTS a symbol of Christmas?
Philippians 2:15 "so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people."
I love driving at night during Christmas season because the streets are a lot less dark and creepy. A street may not necessarily need a street light on if the residents of that street have Christmas lights up because it illuminates the walk path in substitution.
But what is it about these bright colorful bulbs that make it a symbol of Christmas? Who in their right mind wants their electricity bill to peak during the season of buying gifts for others? Having to face your fear of heights by climbing ladders and standing on edges of the roof, scary!
Despite all the reasoning we embrace the season. The season to shine!
I teach my children that the reason we as a family put lights on our house during Christmas is because as believers we are called to be the light of the world. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus we remember why he came, to be our Savior, and to take us out of darkness and into his marvelous light!
When we put lights up on our house what we are saying is "Jesus you are my savior and I will shine to let my neighbors know that I'm celebrating your birth".
So go ahead and let your lights shine brightly amongst men!
