Everything Is At Stake!

Proverbs 13:3 "Those who control their tongue will have a long life; opening your mouth can ruin everything."

Today Jentzen Franklin tweeted, "A fish would never get caught if it would just keep its mouth shut! Watch your words! Refuse to belittle or smear other people". I also came across the scripture while in my daily reading plan. Coincidence? No. Confirmation? Yes.

There's a saying I once heard that says in life there are 3 things you can never get back; a shot arrow, an opportunity and a spoken word. There is much truth in this saying.  You can't take back a shot arrow after its done its damage.  Opportunity may only knock once and when it does you need to be there to answer. Lastly, words are the life and death to all we do and become. And words can very much so can ruin EVERYTHING!

Nobody walks around 'wanting' to hurt people with their words just for fun just like no one in their right mind will walk around shooting a gun with no purpose. Usually the affects of both a shot gun or hurtful words are a reaction to some type of action.  Maybe we had a rough day at work and every little thing is now irritating.  Or maybe you are like me and when you're tired or hungry you get grouchy and those unthoughtful words can be the meal of your day. Words are our reaction to situations and circumstances and its very important that we do watch our words because a simple word can ruin EVERYTHING!

How many times have we read the bible, sat in church, or taught some other new believer the word of God of turning from our sinful nature which includes anger, dirty language, vengeance, gossip? Yet, we in our reaction, not walking nor thinking about the Spirit, revert to opening our mouth and releasing the flood-gates of wrath and destruction ruining everything before us.  There are many things that an opening of the mouth can ruin. It can ruin relationships, marriages, families, friendships, positions, integrity, and trust. Almost everything "we" work so hard to keep safe and secure.  But when we commit our works to the Lord and do things unto God then we can walk in the confidence to know we won't react with a flood-gate of destructive words.

Our human nature wants to react.  We like to say whats on our minds (take a look at Twitter). Many politicians, celebrities, people in the lime light have faced the reality that opening your mouth can ruin everything.  By simple words that they did not consider to think about before saying them. Why are words so important? Well maybe its because Matthew 15:18 states, "But the things that come out of a person's mouth come from the heart, and these defile them." We can try to take back hurtful words and many times people might say yes they forgive you, but the truth is everything has been ruined and that trust isn't going to be the same.  That awkwardness will still be there.

Be warned. God is raising you up to become the person he wants you to be in his Kingdom.  Don't allow your weariness, hunger for food, irritations, or lack of self-control to ruin EVERYTHING because you opened your mouth! Take a lesson from King Solomon the wisest man to ever live, Proverbs 10:19 "Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut."

EVERYTHING IS AT STAKE!
Have you found yourself in a situation where everything was almost ruined because you opened your mouth? Discussion welcomed.
